It’s Spring Break here in Florida (at least in our county), and what’s a better way to spend it than visiting family, old friends, Disney, and minimal technology?
|All smiles (yeah, we hadn’t pulled out of the driveway yet)|
We started our road trlp last Friday, and returned home yesterday. About a million hours in the car with seven of us. Yeahhhhh, that was fun. We usually take the portable DVD players, so the kids can zombie out, but opted not to this time. Instead, we played car games (I’ll share my list for those another time), and, gasp, actually talked. While there was a bit of Angry Birds gaming on the iPhone a few times, and noses in books ignoring everyone else, for the most part we actually had to use our imaginations and interact with each other. Now, it wasn’t always pretty. There was some crankiness and impatience with each other, tears over how unfair the car games were, crayons that rolled onto the floor each time the car turned, but after a bit it leveled out and then it actually became kind of great. Very early 2000’s, before all that brain sucking portable technology.

We also visited with some dear friends we haven’t seen in quite a while, and ran into another family we love, and we didn’t even know we’d be at Disney at the same time.

What was even better, the home we rented while we were there was like being in the dark ages. No, really. THE INTERNET WASN’T WORKING. Hear me out, I panicked at first. What? The internet isn’t working? Oh my gosh, I have soooo much I have to do!
