I am NOT a fan of spiders. At all.
A few weeks ago, when my boys ran into the house to tell me they’d found a black widow outside, I armed up with my spider killer spray ready to take it out.
Instead, what I discovered was this beautifully colored spider just hanging out minding it’s own business. I could see why they thought it was a black widow (we do get those around here too) because of the red on it’s back.
Upon closer inspection and a Google search, I found that it’s called a Orchard Orb Weaver, often found here in Florida. From what I read, it’s fairly harmless if left alone.
While it didn’t convert me to the love of all things creepy crawly with eight legs, I’ll honestly admit that I’m actually fascinated with it’s colors. Needless to say, I didn’t spray it with my bug spray, and to this day it’s still hanging out in the same spot in our back yard.
Sorry, not such a Wordless Wednesday, but I just had to share.
