I Love You No Matter What: A Prince Chirpio Story written and illustrated by J. Rutland
About this book-
This sweet story offers a comforting message: a parent’s love is always there to come home to. Prince Chirpio likes growing up as royalty, but his selfishness and thirst for adventure prompts him to leave the kingdom and fly off to where he can make his own rules. He soon discovers that adventures can be lonely, and he misses the love and protection of his father. Can he go back home? Will his father still love him? Luckily, his father the king is eager to welcome Chirpio back and to convince his young prince that he will always love him—no matter what.
Parents will appreciate that the story focuses on an important felt need: making sure their children know Mom and Dad will always love them. This fresh take on Jesus’ parable of the prodigal son will show young hearts that there’s no getting away from a parent’s love.
My Thoughts-
My children and I truly loved this story. When little Chirpio makes a not-so-great decision to leave his home, he finds himself in a bit of trouble without his family around. However, as he learns his lesson and decides to return home, his father accepted him with arms wide open. I took it as an interesting spin on the well known prodigal son bible story, and even more so as an example of the way Christ loves us.
My first grader Josh was able to fully understand the story and examples set in the book, and that mom and dad will always love him no matter what. Josh, who loves bringing in new books to his school and church classes, has asked if he could bring this one in as well, because, and I quote "It's one of his favorite stories, ever, of all time!"
My four year old didn't last through the entire book, he got a little antsy the longer the story got, but I was able to paraphrase the lesson and moral of the story afterwards.

I help them achieve and hug/kiss them.
Saying "I love you" is the first & last things of the day with my daughter. Of course there are some in between. Plus I leave her little LunchBox Love notes in her lunchbox each day! :)
My daughters enjoy hearing HOW MUCH we love them, ex. to all the stars, around the sun 1,000,000, etc!
My son made a very bad judgement call, and was burned very badly. He was so worried that he had done wrong and we would be mad. We told him we were just worried about him - not what he had done.

I HAVE GROWN CHILDREN WHO HAVE DOUBTED THEMSELVES AND I TELL THEM ... YOU NEVER KNOW UNTIL YOU TRY
When they were playing sports and they were teased. It was hard to watch that kinds of pain. I found other things they could do that the were good at
My son gets frustrated very easily, so we try and work on the don't give up, try again, pratice makes perfect.. and also after prayers, we discuss all the people who love him.
Being teased at school was probably the biggest challenge for my son. We talked about it at home in our family circle so he could realize that it doesn't really matter what others say about you as long as you know yourself who you are...
My son got into a few things that he shouldn't have as a teenager but was honest enough to come to me afterward and let me know.
I have always reminded my children that no matter what I will always be here for them always. And am glad that we have the relationship that they will come to me no matter what.
We will always work everything out together.

Both of my boys are very young, but when my 4 year old recently did something he knew he shouldn't he asked me if I still liked him. I always tell him that I love him no matter what.
