I love this time of year! Spring is always so pretty, with all the brand new flowers blooming and vibrant green leaves and grass popping up all around. The warmer weather is just begging me to get outdoors. Year after year I attempt to have a green thumb and I do my best to plant new flowers, veggies, and herbs and keep them alive. I’m not too great at it yet, but I figure practice makes perfect, right?
This year, I especially wanted to give my front porch a special Spring makeover by adding some colorful planters and flowers. As much as I like to make my space beautiful, I also like to find great deals that I can afford, so a trip to Dollar General’s Lawn and Garden department was in order.
I already had a colorful gerbera daisy that needed to be planted, so knew I could look for something to transfer it into. I challenged myself with a $30 budget, knew I’d need to find the right planter pot first, and then I figured I’d just see what else they had that I would use to brighten up my porch.
The selection was great, Dollar General had everything from planters to wind chimes, and potting soil to hoses. Within my budget, I chose a big bright green planter pot, three ceramic pots in a variety of black and white patterns, a gorgeous blue glass watering globe, a package of Gladiolis bulbs, and even had enough left over for a fun cedar bird feeder and hook for hanging it.
I spent this past Sunday afternoon outdoors setting up my porch with my new purchases. I have a pretty wooden bench we sit in when we’re waiting on the school bus, and it doubles as a perch for my new garden decor. I already had potting soil to plant my bulbs in the black and white planters and to transfer my daisy into it’s new home.
I added some fun wood gift tags into my planters with my street numbers for a unique touch. I also already had a few plants in my backyard that I moved up front, one of which needs moist soil, so the watering globe works well in that one.
The bird feeder found a spot hanging at the very front of my porch, but I might have to move it to a tree if the little birds don’t find it there soon.
Overall, I think that on a small budget, I was able to brighten up our outdoor space quite well by shopping smart at Dollar General this season. I can’t wait to see the bulbs bloom .This simple makeover has been one of my favorite this year, and yet it really took no time at all.
If you’re ready to spruce up your outdoor space this Spring, head over to DG like I did and see what affordable treasures you can find too.
