All these years I thought I was a cool mom to my boys because I know my super heroes. I mean, my oldest boy is 14 so I’ve been immersed in them for over a good decade. They’ve always had a blast with fun costumes of their favorite heroes. They’ve made great imaginative play over the years, so I thought I knew all of them.
However, I got a bit schooled by my third grader Josh when I let him choose a new batman themed costume from Anytime Costumes. To my surprise, even with the fabulous selection of batman costumes, he chose Robin, The Boy Wonder. But not just any Robin, Young Justice Robin.
Here’s how the conversation went…
Josh- “Mom, here’s the costume I picked”
Me- “Oh, cool Josh, Robin, I like him. Are you sure you don’t want Batman?”
Josh- “Um, no mom. I like Batman, but I really like Young Justice Robin better. He’s cooler than regular Robin.”
Me- “Say what? Young Justice Robin? Isn’t Robin just Robin? How many Robin’s are there?”
Josh- “Mom. Young. Justice. You know, Young Justice?”
Me- “Ohhhh, Young Justice. Yeah. Got it.” (what??)
No, I really didn’t but I figured I was about to find out. You can to, check out this Robin tribute.
Anyway… needless to say he has loved it from arrival on day one. It’s very well made, although I think costume makers need to start putting buttons or zippers on the backs, not the velcro. That tends to snag the fabric if it sticks to it, but so far so good on Josh’s new costume. The mask itself is very well done compared to other costumes we’ve had in the past. Our dogs barked at him when he first put it on because it really does look different. It also has a yellow belt and a cape. It’s very authentic to the comic Young Justice Robin.
I ordered him a size medium, which fits perfectly. My youngest tried on the costume too, and being an average size first grader, I would order him one size smaller.
This Robin costume has provided many fun hours of imaginative play this summer. Josh’s favorite thing is to put on the costume and go jump on the trampoline. I think he imagines he’s flying. Although, even I know none of the Robins fly.
I received a promotional costume from Anytime Costumes.
Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers, and my opinions are always 100% my own.
