No one ever said pumpkins can’t be pink & blue and be sparkly with rhinestones, right? Definitely not me, I say the prettier the better.
I made this pretty pink pumpkin pillow (say that 10 times fast) to send to my daughter for her new college dorm room using a Paint-A-Pillow kit. The best thing about using paint and stencils from Cutting Edge Stencils is how well you can customize your work.
Cutting Edge Stencils is a company I’ve worked with several times over the years, and yet I’m still fascinated with how amazing their products are. They offer top of the line stencils & paint, and often release new designs and products. Earlier this year, you may remember the Spring pillows I made for my front porch, using the kit from their sister company Paint-A-Pillow. In this kit is everything you need to design your own custom throw pillows. This Fall, the new Halloween Collection was released!
The 18 new stencils include pumpkins, skulls, rats, bats, spooky cats, & more. The stencil patterns come in a craft size and an 18”x18” which is perfect for accent pillows and totes, and is also available as a Paint-A-Pillow and Paint-A-Tote kits which include everything you’ll need to create the craft.
After you place your order online (and be aware ahead of time, there are so many great designs it’s hard to choose your favorite), your stencils and painting accessories quickly and well packaged.
If you’re using the kit, the stencil is already in place for you and ready to use. Follow the easy instruction sheet, and jump on in.
To match my daughters dorm, this pumpkin couldn’t be traditional orange. So, I went with an unconventional color scheme for Halloween, and used pink and some blue I had left over from my last project.
For some extra detail, I also added a few white highlights to the curves of the pumpkin with white paint, and added green swirling vines with a paint pen (Tip: make sure you use a paint pen, not a permanent marker because the ink pigments may not heat set & may bleed when washing).
Then it was time to add a little bling.
I attaches teal tassels to the corners, and using the rhinestone setter & rhinestones I ordered with my kit, I added a few touches of sparkle here and there.
So as you see, pumpkins can be both pretty and festive for the season.
This pillow is adorable with all her other accessories, and it will be the most comfy and pretty accessory on her dorm bed.
As you can see from the projects made in the Cutting Edge Stencils studio, the Halloween Collection definitely lends itself to look great in traditional Halloween colors and designs as well.

I like the Haunted House and Skull #3 Stencils best from the Halloween collection. You we're right about their selection though. Looking through their tabs I didn't even get through a quarter of them. I would love to find a Paris or Eiffel Tower one.
