This past December I joined a fun group of creative bloggers and we created several different crafts and recipes based on 25 different Christmas movies. You may remember that I shared my Snoopy ornament and free printable based on the movie A Charlie Brown Christmas. We all had such a great response and so much fun, that we decided to challenge each other every month to create a new post featuring a DIY, craft, tutorial, or recipe inspired by a new move. Because Valentines is just around the corner, and romance is on our minds, the movie The Princess Bride is our challenge for this month.
I think I could actually quote the entire movie (don’t worry, I won’t) because my best friend and I watched it about a million times when we were growing up. My first movie boyfriend crush was Westley. If you’ve seen it, you know why. If you haven’t, it’s on Netflix and you should watch it right now.
One of the most memorable phrases from the movie (aside from “Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.” Gah, I love that part!) is “As you wish…”
Here’s a clip from the movie, you’ll see why it’s so romantic.
I’m in the process of giving my bedroom a makeover, and wanted to incorporate something pretty and yes girly (my husband really doesn’t care), and this set of hanging vases featuring my favorite quote from The Princess Bride is perfect.
There’s a few steps, but all of them are easy and you can make this same project very easily.
Glass milk bottles
White spray paint
Jewelry making pearls
Blue painters tape
“As You Wish” free printable
Pretty scrapbook paper
First pray the shellac on the board, and spray paint the glass bottles. If you can find these milk glasses already in white, then even better!
Once those are dry (I actually let them sit overnight), it’s time to hang the bottles.
Cut three pieces of wire the same length, make sure they’re long enough to wrap around the top of the board and the neck of the bottle.
Twist the wire in the back so the bottles are secure.
Then, loop the wire around the neck of the bottle, and twist it a few times so it’s hanging tightly.
Now, right click and save this “As You Wish…” free image, and print it to size.
Cut out the words and tape them to the bottle (I used blue painters tape).
Next, using your tracing paper, trace the words onto the bottles.
You can see how well the letters trace onto the bottle.
Now, thread your pearls through the leather cord, wrap it around the neck of the bottle, and tie it. I like the look of the pieces of leather and wire overlapping each other.
Last, use a black sharpie (or whatever color you’d like) and fill in the letters.
Now they’ve officially been transferred from milk bottles into pretty vases.
But as pretty as they looked at this point, I still felt like something was missing.
I dug through my scrapbook paper supplies and found a pretty piece.
I cut small hearts from the paper, and used one more piece of wire to loop the hearts around the neck of the bottles.
This gave these pretty vases just the touch of detail that they needed.
You can fill the vases with real flowers or faux ones.
These hanging vases are actually very customizable to whatever colors suit your own home decor. The fit well in a farmhouse them or a more contemporary setting.
What colors would you use?
