A great way to participate (other than taking the kiddos bowling, of course) is with a GIVEAWAY for a brand new kids book, Mitchell Goes Bowling by Hallie Durand Illustrated by Tony Fucile!
You may remember Mitchell’s License, published in 2011 by Hallie Durand. Well, little Mitchell and his daddy are back and ready to “BATTLE ON” at the bowling alley.
Like lots of little boys, Mitchell likes to run around and knock things down. Upon an encounter smack into his dads legs one Saturday, daddy figures out the perfect place for Mitchell- the bowling alley. Mitchell immediately loves everything about the place, especially the loud crashing sounds the pins make when the ball hits them. However, he quickly realizes that maybe it’s not as easy as daddy makes it look, and he’s not sure he’ll ever get an X like dad. Even when he tries the same silly leg kick he sees dad do, he finds out just how slippery the lanes are!
With a little teamwork, Mitchell and his father figure out just what it takes for Mitchell to score his very own X!
This book was special to us because we personally love taking our kids bowling. I don’t get to do it nearly often enough. None of us are very good at it, but with a few energetic little boys running around my house, very similar to Mitchell himself, I find that it’s a great thing to do to hold their attention for a bit and work off some of their energy.
We love this story! I laughed the first time I read it because I believe the author could’ve been talking about my son when she described Mitchell. I could totally relate to his high energy level. My kids love the colorful adjectives she uses through out the book, such as dad’s steamin’ hot-potato dance. My son cracked up at both the story and the picture on this particular part.
The illustrations are fantastic. Perfect really. I love the dad’s red hair and “hipster” look, and Mitchell is a mini version of him only with dark hair. Very trendy right now!
Mitchell Goes Bowling will be making it’s rounds to my youngest son’s kindergarten class and then my older son’s 2nd grade class, upon special request by both boys.
I highly recommend this story. It’s a great family read that an early reader can read or for a grown-up to read to a younger child. Ideal for ages 3-7 or preschool – 2nd.
