It’s back to school time already. Like many other parents out there, I’m with you in wondering where in the world the time went. Also like most parents I want to help my kids have a great year, learn and grow, make new friends, and healthy choices.
Throughout the years of raising school aged children, my husband and I have done many things to encourage our kids to have a great year, but one has stuck throughout them all are writing lunchbox notes. When our daughter started preschool (she’s a senior this year, what?) we began writing notes for her lunchbox everyday. It’s since become a tradition to do this for all of our children and if we, heaven forbid, forget to leave a note we’re sure to hear about it.
We’ve found that these small notes in the middle of their days serve as more than a piece of paper they’ve come to expect. It’s an opportunity to offer words of encouragement, reminders, funny jokes to make them smile, a boost of confidence before a big test that day.
At lunchtime, we parents know that making healthy eating choices is important. It’s our job to encourage our young ones to do this, so these “Making Healthy Choices” themed lunchbox notes are what I’ll be using to get the school year started, and you can too. Here are some blank ones if you’d rather use them.
Keeping with encouraging healthy eating choices, I’ve also created some free printable incentive coupons. These are great to give out at the end of the week to reward the healthy choices your little one has made. Coupons are fun motivators, especially in my family where a few of my kiddos are picky eaters. A system of rewards is so much more encouraging than arguing over what a child will or won’t eat.
