The April theme is Pure Colors, Original Elegance and our sponsor this month is Pure & Original Paint, and it couldn’t have happened at a better time for me. They sent me two free cans of paint to try, and that was a huge blessing because of what I was able to use it for.
We just finished our annual Priceless Women’s Conference at our church. I’m part of the design team there, and around October we begin planning. This year, we knew we wanted to pair a very elegant style with reclaimed & salvage wood and metal elements, and a lot of pretty florals and succulents. Think, Joanna Gaines if she were a conference event planner. Our colors were black, white, gray, and rose gold.
The final evening we host an after party for our attendees, and it’s a blast! I hope to have photos of that soon. We have it catered in, but we provide the tables for her to place the food. We knew we wanted an actual furniture piece to be the dessert buffet, but on our tight budget we knew we’d have to be creative. The perfect solution- this curbside find dresser and two coats of Slate Gray Pure & Original paint.
Funny enough, it was our pastor’s wife found this dresser being thrown out. When she called us to see if we wanted it, it was a unanimous yes! Unfortunately, she couldn’t fit the vanity mirror in her van, but I think it may have been broken anyway.
What a before picture, that poor little dresser on the curbside just waiting to be rescued. I bet the folks throwing it out never imagined how we’d repurpose it into the beautiful piece it became.
There’s a vast assortment of Pure & Original paint colors to choose from. For this piece, I originally wasn’t sure if I wanted to go lighter or darker, so I chose Slate Gray and Silver Clay in the Classico finish.
What makes Pure & Original Classico special is that it’s 100% mineral, chalk and water based paint. The paints are heavily pigmented, resulting in rich, matte finishes. The Classico dries quickly and doesn’t need a sealant, even for outdoor use.

NO sealant needed, how awesome is that?
This was my first time ever using the brand. I was impressed how quickly and securely it was shipped. The paint was the usual thick consistency that I’m used to seeing in chalk paint. The dresser was a glossy finish over wood, and I didn’t prep it any more than a good cleaning with soap and water.
At first, I actually painted the entire dresser in the lighter Silver Clay. In my opinion, it looked just a bit darker on the screen when I ordered it than when it arrived, but it could just be the difference in the lighting I was using it in. Although the color was still beautiful, it wasn’t quite what we wanted for the space we were using it in.
Sorry the only pic I took of it in this color was of it on it’s back, I had to get under it and adjust a drawer (don’t ask) and somehow this was at the only photo I took.
We decided the darker Slate Gray was actually the look we wanted, so I repainted it.
The Pure & Original paint goes on very smooth, but both shades did require two coats for full coverage. The top of the dresser here is only one coat, but the two drawers in the back have two, and you can see a big difference.
Also, to keep with our conference look, we didn’t want to distress the dresser at all. We wanted it to look sleek because it was going to be paired with salvaged pieces, and we wanted the mixture of styles.
The dresser didn’t come with all of it’s knobs, so I had an assortment of mix & match spare knobs that fit. We liked that they weren’t matching and paired a touch of whimsy to the elegance, so to make them cohesive I spray painted them in a pretty metallic rose gold.
It looked a little lonely while waiting to, well, get dressed up fancy with it’s flowers, decorations, and delicious desserts.
We added a lot of goodies to the top- cupcakes and parfait cups on vintage cake stands & flowers in milk glass and assorted clear vases. We set a whitewashed cable spool next to it that held more flowers. The entire display became exactly what we were hoping for.
One of the best part about this beautifully made over piece?
When the conference was over, we were able to give it away, to bless a girl who needed it. I don’t think she’s planning to use it as a dessert buffet again, but as an actual dresser in her home, and I’m sure it will be just as lovely there as well.
The Pure & Original Paint is a very high quality brand that I will use again. The colors truly are elegant and luxurious. I’d like to try a project for my home in this shade called Polar Blue.
Very pretty! At first I wondered if the wood could have been stained (and what that might have looked like) but once I saw your color choice I was totally sold. This dresser turned out so handsome and elegant and I love how you spray painted all of the knobs to match, it is very pretty!

I don't know anything about painting furniture but have to say, you chose just the right colour for this project and it turned out beautifully.
