The recommended reading age is seven and up. My nine and eleven year old sons love this series, and thoroughly enjoyed this book as much as the first two. It did not hold the attention of my five year old. It was a very easy read, we read it together out loud in the evenings.
My sons enjoyed the cliff hangers and adventure, while I enjoyed the history they were learning. This series reminds me of the Magic Treehouse series, but with a Christian perspective. The characters in the book pray, and rely on Jesus to help them through, which I love, because it reinforces our family values and beliefs.
