What’s Your Bedtime Routine Like Compared to Mine?

October 11, 2012 by Molly

I think lots of families have their own unique sleepy time traditions. For me growing up, I have fond memories of listening to my dad playing his guitar in the evenings, while my brother, sister, and I sweetly drifted off to sleep in our rooms, without complaint or argument. Well, Mom may have a different version of her little angels at bedtime, but that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. The truth is though, to this day, soft, acoustic music is my very favorite, and always relaxing.
While I didn’t inherit my dads musical talent, my daughter did, so on occasion, I still get to enjoy that soft sound on flowing from her room. Usually though, that’s not at bedtime, and conveniently closer to homework time.
Now that I’ve got five kiddos of my own, four of them being silly little boys who seem to amp up the closer to bedtime we get, I’ll admit that our sleepy time routine isn’t always as peaceful as drifting off to dreamland to quiet music. Normally it consists of giggling, someone singing loudly in the shower, running through the house, jumping on beds, sometimes arguing, getting someone a glass (or five) of water… well, you get the picture.
I’d like to encourage my daughter to play to them in the evenings, but as you can see from this video, it just gets a little silly.
