Into the Whirlwind by Elizabeth Camden

December 1, 2013 by Molly

Into the Whirlwind by Elizabeth Camden comes to life in characters with depth, historical detail, strength through tragedy, and of course a romantic story with many twists and turns.

*********** About ***********

As owner of the 57th Illinois Watch Company, Mollie Knox’s future looks bright until the night the legendary Great Chicago Fire destroys her beloved city. With her world crumbling around her, Mollie will do whatever it takes to rebuild in the aftermath of the devastating fire.

Zack Kazmarek, an influential attorney for one of Chicago’s finest department stores, is a force to be reckoned with among the city’s most powerful citizens. Bold and shrewd, he’s accustomed to getting exactly what he wants–until he meets Mollie Knox, the beguiling businesswoman just beyond his reach.

In the tumult as the people of Chicago race to rebuild a bigger and better city, Mollie comes face-to-face with the full force of Zack’s character and influence. Zack believes this may finally be his chance to win her, but can Mollie ever accept this man and his whirlwind effect on her life, especially with her treasured company on the line?

I’ve read each of Elizabeth Camden’s books, she has become one of my favorite authors. She puts you into the story with the characters.
Into the Whirlwind opens in the middle of the Great Chicago fire. While the story is fiction, I feel like the historic details and account of the fire gave me a more vivid knowledge of the people and place and events that occured during that tragic night in history than I learned in any history class I attended.

Of course, while you’re navigating how to survive tragedy with Mollie, you can’t NOT get caught into the whirlwind of the romantic story between Mollie and Zach. Both characters were flawed and realistic, you knew you weren’t reading about perfect people. You were reading about true human emotions and decisions.

Into the Whirlwind is truly an excellent story, a bit of an emotional roller coaster ranging from sadness to joy and frustration into peace. This is a Christian historical fiction story, but instead of being preachy, you find and see Christ in the way the characters live.

I give Into the Whirlwind four stars.

Into the Whirlwind and other books by Elizabeth Camden are available on Amazon in paperback and Kindle
