Have you seen the trendy extra large wall art utensils recently? I found a fork & spoon set at Joan’s recently, but they were quite out of my price range. Like any good thrifter, crafter, DIYer who falls in love with a piece would do, I had a new mission find a way to recreate something similar for my home.
Plus, I knew they’d be perfect paired with my utensil canvas art that I made for my dining room.

At a yard sale a few weekends ago, I happened upon a set of these vintage wood utensils in the exact size I wanted. You’ve probably seen similar pieces around if you thrift at all, they’re usually in some sort of tiki pattern. The pair I found wasn’t too over the top, so I snatched them up for only $5.

To give them the modern makeover I wanted, I began with a coat of Krylon Dual Paint & Primer in white.

It’s a little hard to see how shiny they are in my indoor photos, but trust me, they shine!

I haven’t hung them yet, but I’m thinking that I like them in my collection of randomness around my fireplace for now.
Don’t overlook those vintage pieces, give them a second chance on life with a modern makeover.
