Remember my new credenza from Sauder I posted about a few months ago? We’ve been in the process of making over our front room, including giving it a whole new wall color, and we desperately needed a new piece of furniture for our TV. I chose this antique white corner entertainment credenza for two main reasons- it’s gorgeous and completely functional. I knew that while housing our TV and related gadgets, the shelf space would allow me to restyle it for every holiday or occasion I wanted to.
Function + Style= Happy!
This is how she looks most of the time. Not too cluttered, with a few of my favorite items as well as kids books, etc.
For Fall I knew I wanted to add color. Fortunately Fall and Thanksgiving have tons. Sauder furniture is designed with not only functionality in mind, but also to help you show off your style. Even if you don’t have the same piece of furniture I do, you could take some of my decorating tips and incorporate it into your own home.
The first thing I added was a Fall table runner to the top of the credenza, and sat my TV on top of it. This corner piece is perfect for a runner because it’s a long and narrow style.
Next, I pulled some plants from around the house that are in Fall colors, and set them next to the TV. Again, the benefit of having a functional piece of furniture. My TV is smaller than the top of the credenza, so there’s plenty of space on the top for the plants.
Then, I just replaced the items on the shelves with my favorite seasonal decor.
Another reason I chose this piece was the fact that it has functional drawers to hide the DVD’s and video games, leaving the shelves available to decorate.
I haven’t pulled out my Christmas decor yet, but I will show you a quick idea that I’m going to incorporate to give my furniture a third fun look, using scrapbook paper!
I simply cut my glittery gold scrapbook paper to size for each shelf, and voila! Instant bling! If your shelves are too big for scrapbook paper, try shelf liner or even wrapping paper.
When you’re working with a lovely piece of furniture already, it’s the little details that will make a difference. The gold bling paper is the perfect background to display my vintage Christmas ornament collection. And the cubby shelves on my credenza is the perfect place to display some of them.
I hope these simple tips are helpful. I try to keep my decorating ideas easy enough that anyone can achieve a similar look.
