From Drab to Fab! The Beatles Dresser Makeover {DIY}

July 10, 2012 by Molly

My parents think it’s hilarious that my teenagers love The Beatles.
Growing up, I personally had no choice in the matter as to whether I’d listen to them or not. I have oh so fond memories of thousand mile road trips to Indiana and a rotation of about 3 Beatles cassette tapes played over, and over, and over the entire way. There and back.
True story.

Anyway, when I saw this $19.99 dresser at Goodwill, I loved everything about it.

It just needed a fresh coat of paint, some drawer pulls, and a little personality and I knew it would be perfect.
Imagine the phrase in your best southern girl Paula Deen voice, “It’s got good bones, y’all!”
However, it wasn’t cool enough for my tweenager (I don’t really like that word, do you?) so I got to work.
First, the dresser got a new coat of white paint.

Next, with my Silhouette Cameo, I cut vinyl words for the five drawers with the names of favorite Beatles songs and album titles.

Then, I applied the vinyl. This was time consuming, I’m not gonna lie.

To make sure the letters wouldn’t come off, I applied a coat of Matte Mod Podge over the vinyl letters.

Finally I added a set of inexpensive drawer pulls I found in a package of 10 at Home Depot.

That’s it! Finished!

Like I said, Drab to Fab in one weekend!
My daughter and I agree it will probably end up in his bachelor pad one day, and we’re both praying he meets a girl who shares his love for good music.

So, funny story about this dresser. A few hours after I posted it, a good bloggy friend pointed out that I’d spelled the word “lonely” incorrectly. Ha! Oops. I immediately fixed it and took new pics. But because the letters had been Mod Podged on, it was really, really a pain to scrape them off (so I guess we know it works well as a sealer for them). But, I did, and now it’s all fixed. Fun times. Never underestimate the power of spell check.

I love this! This is so awesome! Perfect for anyone of all ages who appreciate great music 🙂 But…uh…just thought I would point out – is lonely (of Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club band) spelled wrong? Or do they spell it Lonley in the song title?

I used to work in a greeting card store in the mall, and we had 4 hour Beatles tapes we had to listen to!! I learned their entire catalog that way, as well as how to distinguish between each member's singing voice.

Oh my goodness! I mean, oh your goodness!! This is so awesome! Really, really awesome! I love quoting the Beatles on my art, & my two teenage sons know most words to most Beatles songs-that just means their parents have good taste in music!
    Thanks for the awesomeness!
