Book Review: A Thousand Tomorrows & Just Beyond the Clouds by Karen Kingsbury

As a fast reader, I’m always eager for a new book to dive into—and this time, I found a beautiful two-in-one edition by beloved Christian author Karen Kingsbury. The volume includes A Thousand Tomorrows and Just Beyond the Clouds, both part of her Cody Gunnar series.
I have my niece to thank for introducing me to Kingsbury’s books last July, and since then, I’ve been completely hooked. In just six months, I’ve read all 18 books in the Baxter Family series, and I’m counting down the days until the next installment comes out this March. While I wait, I decided to explore more of Kingsbury’s work—and the Cody Gunnar series was next on my list.
Update: January 31 – One Week and 577 Pages Later…
I finally turned the last page, and wow—what a journey. I’ll admit, it felt like it took longer than usual to finish these two, mostly because I kept dozing off during my midnight reading sessions (no fault of the story—just my own tired eyes!).
That said, these books didn’t disappoint. A Thousand Tomorrows was a quicker read for me, emotionally gripping from the start. Just Beyond the Clouds moved at a slower pace, but its depth and message were powerful. I just found out there’s a third book in this series, This Side of Heaven, which means a trip to Lifeway is definitely in my near future!
At the heart of both stories is a beautiful message of redemption, love, and trust—especially in seasons of grief, loss, and the unknown. Kingsbury masterfully reminds us that God is the only one who can fully heal our broken hearts, and that His plans, even when unclear, are filled with hope.
If you’re looking for a heartfelt story about love, loss, and leaning into faith through life’s hardest moments, this series is a must-read.
