Repurposed Wood Christmas Card Holder – DIY

I wanted to make my first repurposed wood DIY project, and I knew a Christmas Card holder would be a great first attempt.


I presented the idea to my dad, and I’ll never forget the look he gave me when I explained it all to him.

Me- “So Dad, don’t throw those old wooden boards from the pool deck away, because I need them for this really cool project, a Christmas card holder, and I want it to look rustic and original and Christmasy and I don’t want to spend any money on it. But I can’t cut wood so I need you to do it for me. Please?”

Dad (looking at me like I’m bonkers)- “You what? Why do you need those? You can get new pieces at Home Depot”

Me- “Yeah I know. But these look soooo cool being all worn out with the worn paint and everything. You see there’s this site called Pinterest…”

That’s where I really lost him, but he was a good sport and made my wood palette for me, to my specifications. It was actually very simple, and could be easily done in an afternoon.


Supplies
Wood
Paint
Screws
Twine


First, well after you’ve obtained your wood, have your dad make your palette to your size specifications. You can use old or new wood, it really doesn’t matter.


Next, if you want, paint it out. To keep mine Christmasy we used red and green.

Then, to make the star, screw in screws at five points on the board.
Wind your twine tightly in the star shape a few times. 

For a special touch, I added some vinyl words from my Silhouette “Tis the Season” in the corner of mine.



Hang you Christmas cards with clothes pins or clips.
