*Get Creative* Party #8 plus I NEED YOUR OPINION, please!

April 19, 2012 by Molly

Hello All!

Okay, so, I need your honest opinions, feedback, thoughts, etc.

I
personally love hosting this party weekly, and I love linking up to
crafty parties as well. I always find great inspiration in seeing what
others are making, it’s encouraging to me.
But,
it’s come to my attention recently though that not everyone in blog
land feels that there needs to be anymore weekly linky parties, and that
folks don’t appreciate getting comments on their projects with invites
to link their ideas up to these types of parties.

Well,
I’ve done that several times myself, because I really and truly
honestly want you to come link up your stuff, because I think it’s a fun
way to share your ideas. Many of you wouldn’t have been here if I
hadn’t invited you, because how else would you have known about it?
It’s a party, right? Invitations are usually the norm. Anyway, I also have linked up at many, many
parties after receiving invitations in comments on my projects. I don’t
mind that at all. I don’t have time to browse the internet all day
looking for parties to link up to, so I appreciate it when ya’ll let me
know it’s happening.
On
the flip side, I’ve invited lots of people over who haven’t come, and
maybe that’s why. Because I left a nice comment, and said “hey, I’d sure
like you to come link up this week”. I dunno. I am sincere when I say
it, I’d really love for you to head on over. I don’t leave that comment
on every single blog and project I see out there either. If I left it, I
meant it, you know?
Do I host this party to increase my traffic here?
No.
It hasn’t made a much difference in my traffic, ranking, etc, etc, etc.
I didn’t start it for that reson. At this point, my party is small. I
like it like that. It’s ok with me. It really is just to let ya’ll have
an opportunity to share, and for me to find new inspiration and blogs to
follow myself. Period.

Soooo, with ALL
that being said, I’ve started to rethink this weekly party. I don’t
want to be annoying, or for for folks to think I’m self-promoting. I’m
not.
But,
if that’s the vibe that these types of parties are getting across the
craft blogosphere, then I’m not sure if it’s a direction I want to
continue on, you know?

Here’s
what I’m considering, and would LOVE your feedback on it. I’m thinking
of hosting a month long themed party. For example, for May it might be
themed “Getting Ready for Summer!” That gives you all an entire month to
link up, find inspiration, share the love.
What do you think about that? I’d make a new button, and would enjoy some Co-Hosts as well.
Let me know your thoughts this week, and I’ll make a decision and let you know by next week what will happen.
Now. Let’s do a 180 and move onto the features from last week.
It’s Springtime, and I’m loving our warm weather! I don’t know about you, but it’s also birthday party season around here. You know what they say about springtime and babies. Well, I think it’s true because not a weekend has gone by where we don’t have some sort of birthday party invitation or another. In fact, my own son’s birthday is this week.

So, in keeping with the party theme…

Now, let’s get this Craft Party show on the road.
You know how it works, so let’s play nice!

Love the party ideas! That train is so cute!
It's sad people are getting cranky about the invites to the linky. I'd be all over it if I had something to share!

I'm pretty sure I'm familiar with the post you are talking about regarding link parties and i actually have a lot to say about it. I didn't care for it. I think you have to do whatever you want for your own blog, but don't let other peoples whining change what you do. I'll email you the rest of my opinion. Thank you for hosting and I think you have a great party!

So…my opinion is…I love link parties. I am a little ambivalent about when people invite me. It really depends what kind of comment they leave. If it's super generic, I figure they are just scrounging.:) I love the idea of themed parties, but I personally don't care for the extended ones. I find that I don't tend to come back throughout the month. I would rather have a month long theme with a new party every week. Makes it easier to wade through new stuff. That being said, it's your blog, do what you want, and forget the naysayers.:)

I think most people do invite people to their linky parties. Sure there are lots of linky parties out there… but maybe the month long thing would be fun!

Here's my thoughts on link parties b/c I've been a part of them for years. I love seeing other people's ideas and it's a great way to share what you're doing. If someone leaves a comment for me, I try to always leave one back. But if someone just comments to join their party or giveaway or be a follower, I'm a little turned off. In my opinion, blogs are to share ideas and I don't really care how many followers I have. It's about making online friends and being creative. I just hope others feel that way too.

That's funny, I recently read a series of comments on the link party invitations a few weeks ago.
To be honest, I would not be here, linking up if you hadn't invited me. And I'm really glad you did! I have no problem with invites to other link parties, and I appreciate the fact that some one looked at my blog long enough to make the effort (hopefully that doesn't sound too needy! lol. I like themes, but since I don't always seem to have projects that follow the season, holiday etc…I'm not sure I'd participate as much.
But I totally agree with Shiloh, it's your blog, and it's a great one, so I think you should go with whatever idea you like best. If it doesn't work, you can always change it, right?

Thanks for hosting! I like link parties… I get to see fresh creativity and even in the "world of Pinterest"… it allows me to see some clever ideas that I may keep for myself for a gift to someone else or pin for others that I know to enjoy. I say keep on partying like it is 1999 according to Prince!

I could care less what others have to say about there being too many link-up parties. And I truly do not mean to sound rude. It is YOUR blog!! YOU do what works best for you.
I have not been linking up because I simply go through phases of "needing" to crafty and other times of truly needing to take care of life with my family. I love being crafty when I have the time. Can't wait to see what you decide. Maybe it will push me to be crafty again for a while…..I miss it!!!

I think you and your parties are fabulous! I feel I have found people that come to your parties as well as yourself, that have the same style as myself. I always come back for more & I'm VERY thankful you invited me! Just like people parties, birds of a feather flock together! I've decided to not worry about others opinions of me & keep on doing what I love! You should too!!!

I don't worry about what other people say because I have seen really rude comments about things that were totally uncalled for. So you just have to try to ignore that. What I like about link parties is that it gives me a chance to see the creativeness of others whose work I would probably never otherwise find. And when I post my own stuff I have the opportunity to find out what kinds of things others are interested in seeing.

One thing I would really like to see on parties (especially if you are planning a month long one – and you could also consider going by-weekly) is for the most recent link to go in at the top, or number one spot. That way, when one comes back to look, the newer ones are at the top of the list. And it seems more fair to those who aren't able to post right at the beginning.

    Thanks for hosting the parties!

I think linky parties are fun when there is a theme. What a great idea to do month long linky party. I bet it would do well. Can people link up more than one project?
