Pine Cone and Peanut Butter Bird Feeder {Preschool Fun}

April 22, 2012 by Molly

Pine cone bird feeders have been around for a long while. I think Adam and Eve probably made them with their kids.

However, it occurred to me that I’ve never made one with my three year old, so when he found an arm full of pine cones last week on our walk, I knew just what we’d do with them. Because this Sunday is Earth Day, I figured this would be a great time to bust out the peanut butter and let him have some fun with nature.

Here’s what you need to make your very own:
  • Pine cones
  • Peanut butter
  • birdseed
  • twine or ribbon for hanging
  • scissors for cutting the twine
  • a plate and spoon for the peanut butter

Let your child spread the peanut butter generously onto the pine cone with the spoon. When they have it covered, let them cover the pine cone with birdseed.

Cut a piece of twine and tie it onto the pine cone, the other into a tree.
Enjoy watching the birds (and squirrels) munch on their new favorite snack!

    Aww he looks like he is having a ball. I like these but I never make them because it makes the birds leave poop all over your sidewalk LOL.
