Washi Tape Canvas Subway Art Tutorial

Washi Tape.
End of the school year teacher appreciation gift.
And, a tutorial. 

 Whoa, that was a mouth full, but all describe this fun and super easy little project.


Let’s jump right in with the tutorial…

Supplies:
  • Teacher Subway Art print (free Subway Art printable from eighteen25)
  • 11×14 blank canvas
  • multiple colors of washi tape (mine came from Target)
  • ModPodge
  • craft paint

Instructions:
  1. Paint your canvas in the color of your choice
  2. While the canvas is drying, print your subway art. I recommend printing it on cardstock.
  3. Once the paint is dry, ModPodge your paper right onto your canvas. 
  4. Cut strips of the washi tape and apply vertically and horizontally across the canvas. I didn’t use a ruler to make sure my line were perfect, but you could if you want. I also lined the outside edge of the canvas with the tape, just for an extra color pop.
  5. If you want extra reinforcement, you could ModPodge over the entire canvas one more time (optional).

That’s it, you’re finished! 
I know, I can’t believe how simple it was either for such a great result! If you wanted, you could even get the little kids involved by letting them paint the canvas or cut the washi tape. Even better, an older kid could do this entire project on their own.


 This was my first time making a project using washi tape, but I think I’m hooked! 
I’m confident that the teacher will love it, now I just wish I didn’t have to wait two weeks to give it to her.
