Chalkboard Pantry Door Makeover

Unless you’ve been living in a barn, you’ve heard of chalkboard paint. 
I finally took the plunge and gave it a try on my grimey white, finger print covered pantry door. Actually, truth be told, I’ve been wanting to paint it for a while, and finally my husband caved in and told me to just do it.
I used the Rustoleum brand and followed the directions to the letter. I finished this entire project on a Saturday afternoon. 
For prep, I took the door off the frame and I filled in the little holes with wood filler and sanded them down. Then, I primed the door with a regular Kilz primer.
Next, (following the directions) I gave the door three coats chalkboard paint. 
I waited the three days the instructions told me to before conditioning the door by rubbing chalk over the entire surface, then wiping it down. I thought this wouldn’t be completely necessary, but I could tell a difference in a spot that I missed, and I highly recommend not skipping the conditioning step. 
 I. LOVE. IT! 

I finished it just in time to write a birthday message to my daughter! 
I’m looking forward to using it for making lists, menus, special notes, and of course little scribbles from the kiddos.

    I love this idea. My daughter loves any surface she can write on (including my walls lately…sigh). It would be so cool to have an entire wall for her artwork that I don't have to scrub off and hope the paint remains. Thanks!
