Stencils have come a long way baby!
I don’t know about you, but I’m loving all the hand painted decorative furniture these days! With the huge selection of stencils from iStencils.com you can do some serious custom decorating in your space too!

I was blessed to be able to pick a stencil and give it a try. I was amazed at the selection, and almost couldn’t pick a product I loved the most, but finally narrowed it down to the Apple Tree Stencil in the 18×18 size. It came in the mail very quickly and packaged extremely well. 
I wanted to paint a custom canvas as my first project. I’ll admit that once I opened it, with it being such a large stencil I was a bit intimidated by it, so I emailed the company for some advice and they responded very quickly and were very kind. Here are the tips they gave me:

  • Keep
    a stencil in place by taping it at the top and bottom with a piece of
    tape. Low-tack tape is best as it’s easy to remove. I also use a
    repositionable adhesive to keep the stencil in place especially if the
    stencil has a lot of detail.

  • Stenciling is easy. The brushes used are round with short, stiff bristles. Use it in a
    quick up-and-down movement to dab paint onto your stencil. You can also
    use a sponge or small roller.
  • Start panting on the edges of the
    stencil, working into the center, rather than from the center outwards.
    (this helps prevent paint getting under the edges)
  • Don’t overload a brush with paint; wipe off any excess on a paper towel before you begin stenciling.
Once
the paint was dry, I pulled off the stencil and was pleasantly surprised
how well it turned out. I’m not going to say it was perfect on my first
try, but with a few minor touch ups, it was looking pretty great, especially for my first attempt at stenciling in a loooong time.
I added a bit of additional colors on the tree just for some extra fun.


Then, to complete the look I wrote a scripture around the edge of the entire canvas.

    We have an office that has bare walls and no character. The wall stencils would be a perfect way to get started. If I still had money left over I would find something fun for my kitchen.
