How to Create a Glittery Winter Wonderland on Your Walls #CraftAmazing

Christmas is the one time of year that when it comes to home decor, I have a more whimsical taste, colorful, sparkly, and fun. Although I love browsing through Pinterest and magazines and seeing beautiful Christmas tablescapes, setting my table that way just isn’t practical for my family right now. My dining room is used every single day for so many things. Kids do homework, I fold laundry, pay bills, we make craft projects, play board games, and sometimes on nights I’m well organized, we even eat at the table. All this to say, my dining room is usually overlooked when it comes to Christmas decorations.

This year, using glittery Scotch® Expressions Tapes & a pretty teal patterned Scotch® Create masking tape, I decided to create something that would be joyful and creative, and simply make people smile.

I took my wall art inspiration from my favorite trees and fabric, and made a glittery Winter Wonderland of Christmas trees and snowflakes right on my dining room walls.

Once I figured out an easy way to make the trees symmetrical without using some type of magical, common core geometric math formula, they were quick to make.

I created a center line with a weighted piece of twine tied to a push pin, and marked my measurements on my walls with chalk because it’s clean and easy to wipe off when you’re finished. 
For my measurements on my medium tree, I measured and marked down the center line every 7 inches {I marked larger increments on my larger trees, etc}.

Then, at each of the 7” intervals I measured equal distances from the center and marked the wall, repeating the process at each interval by equally adding inches to the length from the center.
For example, my first set of marks were 4” from the center on each side.
My second set were 7” from center, then 9”, then 12”, and so on.

When all my marks were on, I measured equal lengths of the Scotch® Expressions Tape, and put them on the walls from one point to the other. 

Then, I cut the smaller cross pieces and connected all the points. 

The glitter is perfect for the trees, I love the pops of purple, silver, green, pink, & blue.

The teal snowflakes are intentionally subtle. The patterned Scotch® Create masking tape I chose is just what I wanted for the snowflakes, because they blend into the walls well, but are still visible. They don’t steal the show from the trees, but instead compliment them. 

Imagine my surprise when, the day after I finished my walls, I discovered the leopard gecko’s tank had it’s very own glitter Christmas tree stuck to the outside! 

Clearly, the teenager who created this didn’t ask for my special method for symmetry regarding the trees, but Smaug the Gecko sure seems to be proud of his new decorations. 

I found the Scotch® Expressions Tapes in the scrapbooking aisle at Walmart. There were so many fabulous types to choose from, I bought more than enough for this project, because each tree took less then one roll of tape. 


I already have more ideas for Christmas projects and gifts I’ll use the tape for though, so stay tuned throughout the season!  

The Scotch® Create masking tape was in the office supplies aisle, as well as a number of other useful Scotch® products such as double sided tape and magnetic tape.

My original plan was to add the little ornaments and decorations that the kids make throughout the holidays to the walls among the trees. However, now that I see the clean lines of the design, I’m not sure I want to add anything else to them.
