This is a great project for beginners who want to learn how to create distressed looking, whitewashed wood, and hand-lettered typography. If you don’t thing you have great handwriting, don’t worry, you’re going to love how easy this is to make it look like you do!

Before you begin, decide what typography you want on your heart. Some suggestions are to use a name, date, favorite quote, etc.

I made my typography image using PicMonkey (which is my favorite online editing program) but you can use any program you have access to. Print your design to fit on your wooden heart. I actually found my heart at Dollar Tree.

This is a creative and budget friendly way to add farmhouse style to your valentines decor.

The supplies are easily found, you may already have some of them at your house.

Supplies:

Wood heart
White paint
Carbon tracing paper
Twine
Sandpaper
Paintbrush
Sharpie
Typography (printed from your home computer)

First, paint your heart white. Use wide, simple strokes. Leave a little of the wood showing through to enhance the farmhouse style.

Next, when the paint is dry, place your typography over the heart. With the carbon paper under it, trace the words.

This will leave a perfect duplicate of your typography on your heart.

Then, use the sharpie marker to fill in your image.

When the ink is dry, lightly sand the heart and words. This enhances the distressed look of farmhouse style wood.

Finally, thread twine through the tops of the heart for hanging.

If your heart doesn’t have holes, you can either create two small holes with a drill, or simply hot glue the twine to the back.
