Spice Rack Makeover {DIY}

May 26, 2011 by Molly

Recently, I’ve been searching thrift stores and yard sales high and low for ugly, brown, wooden spice racks.
Have you ever noticed that you can never find what you’re looking for when you need it, but any other time, they’re all over the place?
Anyway, I’ve managed to round up a few over the past few months, and it’s time to make them over. Hang with me, I have a purpose for these, you’ll see.
This makeover is super easy, and the results are great.
First, take your wood spice rack, and sand it a little to remove any grease build up.

Next, paint it with a good coat of primer.

Last, pick a color, any color. Give it a good coat of paint, maybe two. Let it sit for at least a day before using, you could even coat it with a varnish if you’d like. When you’re ready, put it to use.

I made these over to hold my paints and other supplies. They could, of course, still be used to hold spices. You could also be a little more creative and use them in a child’s room to hold little dolls or action figures. Or, in a bathroom to hold small lotions or nail polish. Just be creative, and don’t be afraid to think outside the box.

    Ack! Why didn't I think of this? I have about a dozen of these kind of racks that I've picked up from thrift stores and garage sales knowing that it some point I'd use them for something.
    Brilliant!

    I'm jealous! I wish I had a dozen of them 🙂 I actually have one more I just found to add to the collection. I'd love to see your finished product if you do this as well!
