I admit it, I’m addicted to Pride and Prejudice

 “Why did I wait so long to read this book?”

The answer is simple, really. I didn’t think I could understand the grammar and old English writing style. I was intimidated by it.

However, for Christmas, my daughter got a copy of the Pride and Prejudice, the Insight Edition published by Bethany House. It is full of trivia, lists, notes, facts, and information in the side margins to make reading the novel more simple. No doubt about it, Jane Austen was a master at her craft.

I could not put the book down. Although I’d seen the 2005 movie with Kierra Knightly, reading the actual novel changed everything for me. Mr. Darcy was truly a gentleman once I got to know him, Elizabeth even more witty and playful than I had imagined. The scenery and landscape came to life. The characters jumped off the page in my imagination.

If you haven’t already read the book, I highly recommend this version. 

It it official, I’m certifiably addicted.

I want to watch and read everything about this storyline. The fun part is that my daughter is just as hooked as I am. Together, we’ve watched the six hour A&E version of the film, starring Colin Firth as the dreamy Mr. Darcy. We also rented Bride & Prejudice, the Bollywood version, which was fantastic.

I’m not through though. I will be watching another version recommended by a friend, called Lost in Austen.

Believe me now? I’m even considering reading some of the fan fiction that continues the story after Austen ended it.

I’ve enjoyed reading a novel and watching films that are clean enough to enjoy with my 13 year old. That is truly hard to find these days. The morals found in the story are timeless. The faith of Jane Austen is evident in her writing.

Enjoy this trailor from the 2005 movie. Then, run right away to your closest bookstore and grab a copy of the novel. Order pizza for the kids for dinner, and prop up your feet and dive in.
