Yesterday, I had the honor of guest posting at DIY Kinda Girl, and today I want to share that project with my readers here.
Recently, I’ve been having a bit of banner envy. The reason? I can’t sew a straight line. My mom can sew. My daughter can sew. I think it skipped a generation.
I was feeling a bit left out of the DIY banner craze.
One evening recently, as I was browsing Pinterest, it occurred to me that perhaps there was a way to make one without sewing it.
The creative light bulb finally came on, and I created my easy no-sew Fall banner.
For any you other sewing-challenged crafters out there, here are the simple instructions:
1. Gather Supplies. This saves time when you have everything ready before you begin. It also helps if you have a general idea of the look or theme you’re going for. I knew I wanted my banner to be very rustic looking, so I chose accordingly.
- Fabric (I used scraps of duck cloth left from my Etsy projects)
- Scissors.
- Tracing paper
- Hemp rope or ribbon.
- Paint and paint pen
- Hot glue gun
- beads for embellishment (I snagged some from my daughters jewelry making supplies, shhh don’t tell her
2. Cut your fabric into squares and fold in half to cut each into a triangle. Because I went rustic, I wasn’t going for precision, so I simply eyeballed it, cut one, and just used it as a template for the others.
3. Print the word you want your banner to say, and trace onto each triangle with your tracing paper.
4. Remember, this is no-sew, so next you paint in each letter with your favorite fall color. I only used just one coat of paint on mine because it gave it a worn weathered look. I also used my brown paint pen and added some swirly designs for no other reason than I like swirls, and they’re a good space filler.
5. When the paint is dry, cut one long piece of rope or ribbon, and simply hot glue it onto the top back of each triangle.
To make it look like each triangle is tied together, cut individual pieces of rope and tie them in between each one. Use your beads to embellish the ends, and voila! You’re finished!
