Have you ever found your self in a situation, and realized at just the right moment, you’re still right in the center of God’s love? Have you ever thought about how kids need to know this same concept?

Smack-Dab in the Middle of God’s Love is a sweet book for children written by best selling author Brennan Manning and John Blase. It’s full of colorful illustrations by Nicole Tadgell. It tells a story of a middle aged couple Willy Juan and his wife Ana, who are childless, but often find themselves surrounded by children. The couple is able to teach the children in simple ways about how God loves each of us, exactly as we are.
Along with the message of God’s endless love, I also enjoyed that this book highlights a culture different than ours here in America. It uses a few Spanish words and pictures that take place in a little Mexican village. After hearing the story, my five year old even called his cookie a sopapilla. Not an exact translation, but I knew that he at least understood the concept!

I was pleasantly surprised at how much my kids enjoyed this book. It’s written specifically for ages 4-8, but it even held the attention of my nine year old when I read it out loud to my little ones. It would be perfect to read to a Sunday school class of children. 

After I finished reading it, I asked my five year old to tell me when he’s in the middle of God’s love. J-man answered in the most practical way, “Always!” I also asked him how he can share with his friends that God loves them? His answer, “By praying for them and telling them you care for them”.

    My name is Renee and I followed on GFC and I think that we can encourage children by teaching them the lessons Jesus shared with us all and encouraging them to apply it to their lives.

    We need to teach them that God is love and that He loves them. As they learn that they are loved, they'll naturally share that love with others.

    We talk about the verse in Philippians that speaks of being a shining star in this wicked and perverse generation. I believe that it means we need to shine God's love to people around us. Even if we approve, we can love with a Godly love.

    We show our daughter how to be kind to others. We help our neighbors, we hold the door for a stranger, we pick up trash on our daily walks…we need to love ourselves, one another, our planet, and everything that exists on it. We donate time to our local seniors center (my grandma lived there for many years before passing away), so we go there now on a regular basis and fiance does some odds and ends things around the building, and I clean up and visit (more visiting than cleaning 😉 with residents. They really enjoy seeing our children…it's a great feeling, and I love knowing my kids are taking a lot from each experience.
