If you’re a book lover, you’ll appreciate this list I’ve decided to put together. I imagine that there very well may be several similar to it floating around the world wide web, and a simple Google search will either deny or confirm that suspicion.
But regardless, here’s mine, which may or may not be from personal experience (wouldn’t you like to know)
You might be a Book Nerd if…
- You’ve stayed up reading until 3AM, knowing full well you have to be up at 5 to start your day
- You hide your series of Twilight books like they’re candy, because you might not want to admit that you’ve read them. Perhaps twice.
- Instead of reading to help you fall asleep, you read to stay awake
- You’ve invested more in your book collection than your wardrobe
- You own hard copies and e-books of the same book
- You own more than one type of e-reader
- You’ve gotten your kids as addicted to reading as you are
- You enjoyed doing book reports when you were in school. In fact, they were the highlight of your week.
- You enjoy blogging book reviews, which are essentially grown up versions of book reports
- You’ve made a Pintrest board with the titles of all your favorite books, and almost get jealous when someone else “repins” one of your pictures because it can’t be their favorite too!
- You’ve also made Pintrest boards of celebrities faces to go along with your favorite characters from your favorite books
- You get into serious conversations with others about what celebrity should play the role of your favorite character in a movie
- You always want to read the book first before you go see the movie, because you don’t want to be left out of any details the movie may have overlooked.
- You like it when you can tell your friends “Yeah, the movie was okay, but the book ended differently”. Then, proceed to giveaway the “alternate” ending, just in case they care.
- You go to a city that a book is set in and look around like you just might happen upon the real life version of your favorite fictional character
- You’ve missed a meal to keep reading
- The employees at your favorite book store know you by name
- You look at the clock and wonder where the last 3 hours have gone, and when did it get dark outside?
- You don’t even watch TV anymore
- If you meet another self proclaimed “book nerd” and they haven’t read as many books as you, you consider them an amateur
- You’d rather go to Barnes and Noble than grocery shopping, the mall, or just about anywhere else
- You have books in every room of the house, including the bathroom
- You’ve ever tried reading in the tub like they do on movies, but realize it just doesn’t work that well
- You have two copies of the same book, one to keep at home, one to keep in your car
- You’ve ever tried to read while waiting at a red light, and you’re the driver
- You own library cards to libraries in multiple cities
- You know there are more books that you want to read than you’ll ever get to in your lifetime, and that’s okay with you, might as well try
- You know that being a Book Nerd isn’t really a bad thing! In fact, it’s a title that you wear proudly!

okay, I'm a partial book nerd! I do like to read the books before I see the movie, and I do try to read books in the tub (but it really doesn't work). great list. 🙂

The only thing I have to add is that you might be a book nerd if you remind your husband of the last time he messed up to get him to take care of the kids in the evening so you can keep reading. Which I may or may not have done on occasion 🙂
I have done number one on your list more times than I can count (and always regret it when the alarm goes off).

You might be a book nerd if you always buy oversize purses to make sure you can accommodate whatever book you happen to be reading at the time, "just in case" you're out somewhere and you have a spare minute. (Big enough for Harry Potter is my personal rule.)
You might be a book nerd if the folks at Barnes & Noble offer to give you their employee discount (true story!)
You might be a book nerd if you hide your books so that other people can't borrow them 🙂
