Rustic Winter Frame Initial Wreath- Crafting with Leftover Christmas items
It’s always a bit of a downer to see our Christmas decorations being put away, not to even mention our once beautiful trees now laying by the road waiting to be hauled away. My husband puts them at the very edge of our yard almost completely out of view, it’s so sad.
This year, to keep the memory of our trees around a bit longer, I’ve made a wreath for our door using branches and a slice of the stump of the Christmas tree. But not just any wreath. No, this has been lovingly titled my “Rustic Winter Frame Initial Wreath”. Say that five times fast. No don’t, just kidding.

Anyway, by using the leftover Christmas items I had on hand, and purchasing a bird ornament from Target during their 70% off Christmas clearance, I spent a whopping 90 cents. That’s right, under $1, whoo hoo!

Supplies:
  • Brown picture frame
  • Branches from the Christmas tree
  • A slice from the stump of the tree (thanks Dad for cutting that for me)
  • Twine
  • A bird Christmas ornament
  • Hot glue
  • Paint pen

Instructions:

First, I cut a few branches from the tree, and boy did they smell gooooood!
Next, my Dad (aka the guy I call when I have a project that requires power tools) sliced a portion from the stump. If I’d have thought ahead, I’d have grabbed the piece that Lowes cut off when we bought the tree. He sanded the wood slice just a bit to make a somewhat flat surface. Then, he drilled a small hole in the top.

I hung the wood slice with my twine from the top of the frame, and tied a longer piece to the top for hanging.
Next, I hot glued the branches into place, and wrapped a bit of the twine around them and the frame. Then I hot glued on my bird ornament.


Last, I hand painted my family initial “W” onto the wood slice for a completely custom touch. 

Now, I can hang onto that warm, cozy winter feeling just a bit longer.
