Enjoying the Blues

March 7, 2012 by Molly

My new favorite color for accent decorating is this blue. Folks call it lots of names… Robins Egg, Tiffany, Country, Aqua, Teal, Vintage… and it’s true that there are many shades of this particular trendy color.
And I like it.

It’s amazing what a can of spray paint can do to totally change the look of a piece. The three you see above didn’t start out so cute. They were all thrifty finds that had potential. The lantern had broken stained glass.
The apples were an outdated gold, and the bowl was a stratched bronze.
The red bird was a Dollar Tree find that was cute enough, but not very colorful.
Check it out…
I also realized that I’ve used it a lot on many other projects I’ve shared here on my blog. I had found a gallon of “Oops paint” for $2.50 at Walmart and it’s obviously been put to very good use…
The chair from my distressed paint technique
The DIY chalkboard
The $5 dresser makeover in my Art Room
The owl from my West Elm knock-off
The Modern Art thumbprint tree
I hope you’re inspired and not overwhelmed at all this blue-whatever-it’s-called color. I don’t have it all in one place, I just use it to accent areas of my home.
However, my husband doesn’t know it yet, but I am about to repaint my dining room blue.
That’s going to be for a future post. I’ll keep you posted!

Don't you just love how some paint can transform on "object", making it look totally new and different! Very nice.

Very pretty, it does make a nice accent color. I like the way the little red birdie turned out. 🙂

I've never used blues as a an accent color except in my boys' room. Maybe I'll try it out somewhere else. Thanks

It's amazing what a little paint does to freshen things up. That's the perfect color to invite spring in! If you have a minute, would you link these ideas to my party?

I've started redecorating lately and I've noticed I'm leaning more towards the pastels myself! I spray painted an old outdated gold mirror and shelf set a candy pink! It matches the pink and teal magnolias in my picture frames! I love what you've done!

OMG im so excited to share with u that i did a chair (like your blue one) with the bird and flower material on it. I love the colors in it, i did a yellow chair, and we made pillows of each color. I also copied the material and printed on paper in color, cut out the flowers and birds to hodge podge on a desk. So cute love ur ideas and chair
