DIY Garden Markers from Paint Stir Sticks {Kids Crafts}

May 3, 2012 by Molly

Here’s a fun way for kids to make garden markers that will add a bright, unique touch to any planting space.
Supplies:
  • Paint stir sticks (free in the paint section of most stores)
  • craft paint
  • a Sharpie or Paint Pen
  • Clear spray sealer
  • A kid willing to paint a bunch of sticks for you
Fortunately, I already had all these on hand when I needed labels for my container garden, especially the kid who loves to paint anything.

I just let him paint each stick a solid color on both sides of the stir stick. He always picks bright colors, which I love.
When it dried, I used my paint pen to write the name of the herb on it.
Last, I sprayed a clear protective coat onto the stick to keep it safe from the elements, and so far so good. They’ve lasted through the sun and the rain.

The result is a simple project, virtually free, with a unique touch to your garden that you can use and your little one can be proud of.
It’s a Win-Win.

    This was such a great article and I truly enjoyed reading it. I am going to start a flower pot garden soon and hopefully I can keep the rabbits from hopping on in to grab a few treats. 🙂 Feel free to visit back (www.Simplesavingsforatlmoms.com) ~ Quida
