This book is a beautiful story of a baby giraffe named Twiga and his childlike curiosity. Twiga, like most little children, loves to look, listen, smell, and explore the world around him. As his mother watches over him, she urges him to be cautious and not stray too far from her while he enjoys his surroundings. This is a lovely little tale of a relationship between mother and child, his joy of life and his mothers love and protectiveness for him.

As a mom, I have enjoyed reading this story to my three year old. He has picked up on many of the words and phrases and says them with me, and giggles in just the right places. He has related the story of Twiga and his Mama to myself and him. He understands that the baby giraffe is loved and cared for just like he is.
As an artist, I fell in love with the illustrations by Mike Wohnoutka. The enchanting details and colors capture the giraffes and their personalities and paint a gorgeous picture of the African savanna.

About the Author:
Toni Buzzeo is the author of several picture books for children, including The Sea Chest, illustrated by Mary GrandPre, Dawdle Duckling, illustrated by Margaret Spengler, and most recently No T.Rex in the Library, illustrated
by Sachiko Yoshikawa. A School Library Media Specialist, Toni lives on

Mike Wohnoutka has illustrated many children’s books, including the award-winning Davey’s Blue-Eyed Frog by Patricia Harrison Easton,Mama’s Little Ducking by Marjorie Parker, and most recently Can’t Sleep without Sheep by Susanna Leonard Hill.     I think my son would love this because he likes Giraffe and I would love this because it would teach him a valuable lesson about caution.

    This book would be a much welcomed addition to our children's library. I can honestly see this book as being beneficial to all our children (ages 13 – 16 months). They all need to know that their momma watches out for them no matter how old they are.

    I would love to win this to read to my boys because I am a highly paranoid person and I don't want to scare them. My mom started making me afraid of strangers when I was 2, always training me to watch my surroundings because "bad people are everywhere" I don't want to make my kids as paranoid/afraid as me, but I still want them to be cautious.
