My Thoughts:
I have been so excited to write this review since I finished this book!
First of all, you have to realize that this is the third book in the Tales of Goldstone Wood series, and I definitely would not recommend reading this before the others. They are not necessarily stand alone novels, they’re so intertwined with one another. I didn’t know that when I first began to read Moonblood and quickly realized I was missing something. Read Heartless and Veiled Rose first, you’ll be glad you did.
Okay, with that being said, I want to say that this has been one of the best series I’ve read in a long time in it’s genre. Where to begin? Wow! I loved this book! As with the first two, and the series in general, it’s almost like you’re reading two parallel stories. By that I mean, you’re reading about Prince Lionheart and his kingdom, but at the same time in your mind you’re receiving a story that parallels the story of Faith, and each character represents and walks through different roles, stories, and emotions revolving our thoughts on God and faith that we do. It’s allegorical. Think Narnia or Lord of the Rings. There is a “story within the story”, if you will. Don’t let the covers fool you into thinking these are a set of strange, dark, supernatural books, because they are not. While they do address evil and darkness, the light and truth are ever present.
In Moonblood, Prince Lionheart is the picture of human insecurity, unrealistic expectations, and strife in trying to be all things to all men and gain atonement. Rose Red knows the truth, yet still struggles internally with expectations and disappointment when her life turns out completely opposite of what she thought it would. And those are only two examples of the many, many that abound in this book. While some may gain more than others from this book, I feel like it was very deep. I enjoy how well it was written, and the thoughts, emotions, research, and truth that have been poured into Moonblood.
If you’re looking for a different and refreshing type of Christian read, that’s filled with fantasy and imagination, please get your hands on a copy of these books! The worst part about the series that they ended! I am happy to say, that in the fall a new book in the series, Starflower, is scheduled to be released, and I personally cannot wait!

Anne Elisabeth Stengl's series is wonderful; one I would highly recommend to young adult readers and up. Each book has been better than the previous, with the first being captivating. So many spiritual truths (keeping one's heart, trust, grace, forgiveness) wrapped in a fantasy series that I think can stand with the best.

Moonblood was one of the best books I have ever read! I began the series with Heartless (the first book) and with each book I loved the series more! Can't wait till Dragonwitch!
