Put Together a Summer Bucket List

June 15, 2012 by Molly

At our Summer Fun Party 2012, you’ll find tons of great ideas to keep the kids and grown-ups hopping all summer long.
But, what are the very specific things you’d like to accomplish, places to see, things to do with your family this Summer? My family has a few particulars, so we put together a bucket list of to-do activities. They range from simplistic, to activities we’ll do multiple times over the summer, to two large trips we have planned as a family. We wrote it out on our chalkboard pantry door to be able to see it each day as a reminder.
I also encourage you to have your children journal about their activities. This will keep their minds sharp and active over the lazy summer days. If writing isn’t their thing, or they’re too young to know how to write yet, let them take photos or draw pictures of their memories.
Having a hard time coming up with ideas to do locally or inexpensively? Look for blogs and websites that focus on your community for local activities. Sign up for Groupon for great deals in your area. Talk to other parents and friends to see what they have planned.
Here is our personal bucket list. Feel free to use some of my ideas, and add your own!
  • Make Play-doh
  • Go Swimming
  • Go Canoeing
  • Ride Go-Carts
  • Go Roller Skating
  • Play in the Backyard Sprinkler
  • Visit a Bass Pro Shop
  • Go to a Local Baseball Game
  • Visit the Butterfly House
  • Go Bowling
  • Write Snail-Mail to Friends and Family
  • Play at the Park
  • Go to the Beach
  • Have a Backyard Camp-out
  • Go to the Hot Air Balloon Festival
  • Visit a Waterpark
  • Visit the Gulfarium
  • Vacation to Nashville
  • Travel to Holland
For even more inspiration, one of my favorite local websites posts a 77 Days of Summer list that you can find HERE. Even if you live far, far away, you could probably adjust this list to fit your local area.
Whatever you do, remember quality over quantity. Often, a child is just as happy being pushed on a swing by you as they are on an expensive outing.
Making good memories should be our ultimate number one goal!

Blissful and Domestic

Such a cute idea! Since my daughter will be 2 soon, this would be a good idea for things she would enjoy!

This is a wonderful idea. We've been going to the lake for the most part, now that the boys aren't afraid of water, but there is definitely so much more to do! Thanks so much for the wonderful ideas!
