Welcome Back to School with JOLLY TIME® Pop Corn!

August 27, 2012 by Molly

My kiddos started school this past week, and I almost forgot how hungry they are when they get home! Thankfully, I was prepared with a Back to School Popcorn Trio from JOLLY TIME® Pop Corn, which my family loved!
When my fifth grader son walked in the door after his first day back, he said “Seriously mom, there’s nothing better than the smell of that popcorn after a long day of school!”

As a mom, I love it because it’s not only convenient, but because it’s delicious it’s sure to be a hit. With my five kids, none is wasted around my house. I LOVE the mini bags, with them I never hear “He got more than me!” because they’re the perfect portion size for everyone! No ruining dinner appetites with these bags.

With the JOLLY TIME® Pop Corn selection of delicious 100-calorie Healthy Pop®
varieties – including sweet-and-salty Kettle Corn and rich Butter Flavor –
both kids and moms can feel good about whole grain and gluten-free snack
options.

Fun Popcorn Facts
  • Compared to most snack foods, popcorn is low in calories. Air-popped popcoren has only 3 calories per cup. Oil-popped has only 55 per cup.
  • Popcorn is a whole grain!
  • Americans consume 16 billion quarts of this whole grain, good-for-you treat. That’s 51 quarts per man, woman and child.
  • The peak period for popcorn sales for home consumption is in the fall.
  • Most popcorn comes in two basic shapes when it’s popped: snowflake & mushroom. Snowflake is used in movie theaters and ballparks because it looks and pops bigger. Mushroom is used for candy confections because it doesn’t crumble.
History of Popcorn
  • 1492- As Columbus set foot on american soil, popcorn was there, too! Native Americans who greeted Columbus enjoyed snacking on the fluffy white stuff and made quite a fashion statement with their popcorn necklaces.
  • 1700- Colonial women made the first tasty breakfast cereal by pouring milk and sugar over popcorn.
  • 1885- The first popcorn “machine” was invented. Until then, poppers were made to sit in front of stores to attract attention. But vendors wanted to be close to the crowds- sepecially the crowds near movie theaters. So poppers were made that could be pushed on foot, pulled by horse or mounted on trucks.
  • 1914- Cold Smith- the founding father of JOLLY TIME® Pop Corn- and his son, Howard Smigh, set up shop in their Sioux City, Iowa home. From their basement they shell, clean, and package the first branded popron in the U.S.
  • 1924- JOLLY TIME® obtains the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval on all of its products, and still carries it today- longer than any other food product.
