Me Mateys, did you know International Talk Like a Pirate Day is September 19? 
No? Well, shivery me timbers, but it is!
And in celebration leading up to such a fun day, I have a great book and plush toy giveaway for the wee pirates out there! 
Greenbeard the Pirate Pig by Andrea Torrey Balsara will take your little ones on quite a piratey adventure with the little guinea pig Greenbeard.

About the story-
Greenbeard is a gentle creature who grows lettuce on his small, hilly farm. He eats so much of his crop his beard has turned green! One day a fine salt breeze blows up from the ocean, awakens his sense of Adventure and leads him down the hill to seek the dashing daring life of a pirate. The set contains a 32-page Chapter Book as well as an 8″ plush Greenbeard toy with intricate details that will bring the beautiful illustrations to life! Author Andrea Torrey Balsara is best known for her children’s books that “encourage kids to enjoy the wild ride of self-discovery” just as Greenbeard does as he transforms himself from a humble farmer to adventure-seeking pirate through his own initiative and hard work. A very piratey song sheet is included in the set.


 
My five and seven year old sons love playing pirates, so I just knew this would be a story they’d enjoy, and I was correct! They’ve taken turns holding the soft plushy Greenbeard toy while my husband and I have read to them the book before bedtime. 
My kindergartner is very excited to take his copy with him to his class to share this new story with his friends next week for Talk Like a Pirate Day.

Andrea Torrey Balsara is the author of many books and is a self-taught artist who has recently switched from watercolor to digital media for illustrating.
