Time for Another Chair Update- EASY Decor Change

April 25, 2014 by Molly

You may recognize that chair, because it’s already had two other makeovers here on the blog. The first one was several years ago, and it was one of my first creative posts at JALC called How to Recover Ugly Chairs. The second update they got when I used fabric paint to update the upholstery.

But because I feel the need to change my decor often (and because the fabric was ridiculously stained) I decided it was time for another update. However, I don’t often do updates that aren’t easy and affordable. This makeover was both.

I don’t sew, but I love pretty fabrics. I have a gift card to Hobby Lobby, and prepared with a 40% coupon I found online, I knew I could find just what I wanted. The problem was, I didn’t really know what I wanted. Sometimes I just know it when I see it. Do you ever do that? Anyway, I was in fabric heaven. I’m lucky that our Hobby Lobby carries such a great selection.

I didn’t know until I got there, but they were having a fabric sale, so I didn’t even need my coupon.

I fell in love with this fantastic giraffe print, and it’s in duck cloth, so I almost got it. The two reasons I didn’t were 1. I knew my husband wouldn’t like it
2. I knew the white would get stained very quickly

I finally narrowed it down to these two very different styles, and the blue trellis print won. I purchased a yard, on sale for $6.29, so that’s only $3.14 per chair.

Here are the chairs before. Uh yeah, they’re pretty stained.

I’m not going to give a full description of how-to recover the chair because you can find it in my post HERE.

In a nutshell, I removed the seats, cut the fabric to size, and stapled, stapled, stapled. I literally just went right over the green fabric, I didn’t even bother pulling it off.

Affordable and easy. My kind of makeover!

Hey – great minds think alike! I bought the same fabric (maybe in a slight lighter shade of blue?) to recover chairs with. 🙂 Thanks for sharing on Trash 2 Treasure Tuesday!

Love how this turned out! I would have chosen the same fabric too–looks like we have similar style! Pinning this!
