Are you ready for a fun and creative project, using the best of the best supplies, that will create a beautiful space for your plants, either indoors or out? Yes?
Creating beautiful garden flower pots in custom colors is easy when using FrogTape® Shape Tape™, and I’m going to walk you through step by step how to make your own.
I chose to use FrogTape® on my pots and not some other type of tape because it’s the only painter’s tape treated with PaintBlock® Technology. PaintBlock® is a super-absorbent polymer which reacts with latex paint and instantly gels to form a micro-barrier that seals the edges of the tape, preventing paint bleed.
When you remove your tape, you have crisp clean lines without peeling off the paint with the tape.
Supplies:
FrogTape® Shape Tape™
Terracotta flower pots
Primer (I used Krylon spray primer)
Acrylic paints
Paint pens (optional)
Directions:
First, you’ll start with plain, inexpensive terracotta pots that are found in any home & garden center.

Paint them with a primer, I used Krylon spray paint primer, but you can use a brush on type if you want. Spray paint just tends to be a faster solution for this project.

Next, paint the flower pots with a base coat inside and out with acrylic paints. I love the color block look this gives them.

Now for the real fun. Let the paint dry completely, and then use the Shape Tape™ around the pots to create a variety of designs. FrogTape® Shape Tape™ comes in several shapes (wave, chevron, and scallop), but I used the chevron because I like the versatility of designs you can create with it. Keep in mind, that just because it’s a chevron shape, it can be cut and used in a variety of ways.

To create that variety of funky designs on your flower pots, you can cut the chevron Shape Tape™ into different sections and space them on the pots in many different ways.

Keep in mind, that because flower pots are odd shapes (they contour at an inward angle from top to bottom) it’ actually doesn’t work well to try to lay a long section of the chevron around the pot, it won’t ever make a straight line. So for those areas you want the chevron line, you have to manipulate the tape a bit but cutting each piece and layering them, then trimming overlapping pieces.

Or for even more creative variety, leave fun spaces between the pieces. You’ll get crisp lines and interesting patterns.

Another idea is to put two opposite chevron angles together for a perfect triangle.

Now, it’s time to paint on your design using the Shape Tape™as your pattern and stencil.
Along with regular acrylic paint, don’t be afraid to use paint pens to draw along the perfect lines the Shape Tape™makes. This can lead to some fun contrast and design.

When your paint is dry, remove tape to see your crisp lines.

Voilá!
You’re ready to add plants in your new gorgeous and most unique flower pots.
