Make Your Own Modern Spring Wreath

Spring wreath

Raise your hand if you’re loving the trend of these modern wreaths! I’m not even wreath person, but the abundance of these pretty, yet mod Spring wreaths all over Pinterest right now have me rethinking my opinion.

I think it’s the non-traditional way they look. The florals are simple and clean, almost understated, with a lot of the wreath substrate showing. They’re almost sculptural in design, and the base can be made from anything, often being as unique and beautiful as the flowers and greenery.

I’m time again for the Thrift Store Challenge, so I knew that this was my time to give one of these wreaths a try, using a super cool top to a cable spool I found.

The Thrift Store Challenge Rules:

Upcycle an item(s) from a thrift store, resale store, or garage sale into a new piece of decor.

There’s no monthly theme.

There’s no budget to stick to.

Make Your Own Modern Spring Wreath

I’ve had these pieces of wood for quite a while. They’re actually the tops and bottoms of cable spools.

I picked up five or six of them out and about thrifting a while back and haven’t done anything with them until now. I love how rustic they are.

Obviously, you may not find these exact pieces of wood, but a cut circle would do just as well to make a wreath similar to mine.

To begin, I painted several circles onto my circle, for no other reason than I just liked how they looked. Once there were finished, I liked how the imperfect circles mimicked a traditional grapevine wreath.

Can you believe the floral supplies were all purchased from Dollar Tree?

They’re perfect for this project!

And what I couldn’t find there, I cut from my own backyard.

So, this wreath is a mix of both real and faux greenery.

natural greenery

First, I cut the vine garland to the size I wanted, and used this as a guide for where to build the rest of the greenery from there.

I stapled the vine to the back using a staple gun.

From there, I just cut the vine and greenery from my stems, tucked them in to fill the space, and hot glued them in place.

Same for the flowers. Simply trim, place, and glue.

add flower to wreath

Last, once the faux greenery and flowers were as full as I wanted them, I added my natural sprigs. I didn’t glue these, just tucked them in place tightly.

If I want to reuse this wreath next year, I wanted to be able to throw out the natural greenery once the season was over.

Add a ribbon for hanging, and you’re finished.

A great bonus is this style fits perfectly in any type of home decor setting, from farmhouse chic to modern.

You can create your wreath to be as full or as simple as you’d like.

Adorable! This is so pretty and the white looks amazing, at first glance I thought it was a grapevine wreath. Perfect touch for spring

I really like this idea. I have a cable top left over so I will have to give this project a try. I love the simplicity of the wreath.

Very creative my dear! I just made an IKEA hack today using a black stool. I have the seating thing left as I only needed the legs and I was about to throw it away…but not anymore! I can make my very own modern spring wreath thanks to your inspiration.
