Here I am sharing a few valuable tips on what to look for, and perhaps, a checklist for you to get started. You can implement these simple outdoor maintenance ideas to keep possible moisture problems away, avoid expensive repairs, and build the system for a trouble-free season.
An Amazing Outdoor Home Maintenance Checklist for Spring
Repair Windows and Screen Doors:
Screens are intended to stop bugs outside the house and let the wind come in; however, they can do their work correctly only if they are neat, free of gaps and cracks.
Before installing your screens for the upcoming sunny months, make sure you check each of them thoroughly and fix any cracks or cuts, no matter how little they appear.
You can use screen repair kits that are available in almost all home improvement and hardware shops.
Reseal the Exterior Woodwork:
Reseal or stain the wooden frames, pergolas, trellises, fences, decks, railings, and different outdoor structures and frameworks. Doing so every year or two will keep them in better condition for longer times.
Inspect and Repair the Roof:
Winter storms can affect the roof of your house. You can identify any possible damages by doing a quick visual inspection of your roof. You don’t need a ladder to do it. Also, you don’t need to go on a roof to check it. You can inspect it with the help of a binocular.
During your inspection, you must check for everything that simply doesn’t seem right. Check out the metal pipes that are either missing or damaged. If you identify something that might need a closer inspection or quick fix, then get in touch with a roofer.
Put a Stop to Mosquitoes:
Nowadays, we have become more conscious of the possible threats mosquitos can create to our health. A valid method to deter mosquitos around the house is to avoid any standing water. Take a walk around your house and nearby area to check the places where water stands. If you notice any such site nearby your home, repair it or tip it immediately.
Ground Inspection:
Check if the driveways and walkways are in good condition and not damaged. Patching the asphalt is possible. However, if the concrete is stained or cracked, then it will need to be replaced completely.
You must find out these issues at the earliest, or else, they might turn into a huge problem. You might find it difficult to fix such issues. Therefore, it is wise to call a trained person to handle them.
Clean Gutters:
It is necessary to repair and clean the downspouts and gutters after Winter. The wood trim located at the eaves may get spoiled or rotten because of clogged gutters.
Repairing and cleaning the downspouts and gutters in the starting phase of the season can save you from possible damages that may occur due to spring rains.
Wastages such as leaves, seeds, and leftovers can clog the gutters. It can cause various issues such as overflow, bugs, rotting, and even flooding.
If the downspouts are connected correctly, the flow of the water becomes smooth, and it gets appropriately delivered–away from your house!
Paint the Exterior:
If you have plans to repaint the exterior of your house this year, then Spring is an excellent time to get it done.
Painting is the best method to seal the outside and guard your home against rain and moisture damage. Watch for the areas that usually peel or lose color. A single touch up of color is enough.
