Looking or a unique gift you can make for Mother’s Day? These lavender essential oil & Himalayan salt scrub bars just may be perfect.
When I was little, when we would ask my mom what she wanted for her birthday or Christmas, and she’d always say “Just make me something”. And as I’ve grown, I’ve found myself telling my kids the same thing. The thing is, I know it’s not always easy to think of something to make that she didn’t already have. These DIY lavender bars are actually a great gift-giving idea.
Lavender oil is a great beginner oil and a must for every home. The refreshing scent and exfoliating treatment from these bars help create a spa-like retreat in your own home.
You’ll be surprised at how easy they are to make. By using cute soap molds, you can create a variety of pretty shapes and patterns.
Supplies:
(these are my affiliate links)
½ pound glycerin soap base of your choice
1 teaspoon sweet almond oil
10 drops lavender essential oil
3 teaspoons pink Himalayan salt
2-3 drops of pink or purple soap coloring
Spray bottle of rubbing alcohol
Soap mold
First, cut the soap base into squares and place into a microwave safe bowl.
Next, heat at 30 second intervals until melted.
Then, add sweet almond oil to the bowl and stir well.
Do the same with a few drops of your lavender essentials oil.
Here’s where the customizing fun begins! Add soap coloring. These are purple, but you can create any color you’d like.
The lavender essential oil shouldn’t have a color to it, so regardless of the soap coloring you use, you’ll still get all the benefits from the lavender essential oil.
Stir the coloring until you get your desired shade. Remember to begin slow with the colors. You can always add a drop or two more to make it darker, but it’s much harder to make it lighter.
Now, sprinkle a pinch of salt into bottom of your soap mold.
Gently pour soap mixture into mold.
Then, sprinkle a pinch of salt to top of soap. The salt is what gives these lavender bars the ability to exfoliate.
Spray the top of the soap with the rubbing alcohol.
Finally, allow to harden for at least an hour. Gently pop out and store in an airtight container or ziplock bag until ready to use.
To wrap the soaps individually, you can even use small jewelry bags like these. Tie a pretty ribbon to the top for a pretty final touch.
This Mother’s Day, go ahead and spoil your mom a little with these luxurious lavender bars that you created on your own!
