DecoArt has a brand new product available called Galaxy Glitter, and it’s nothing but fun! Now hear me out, I’m definitely a casual girl, give me jeans and t-shirts and I’m good. If they can get paint on them, even better. My personal clothing style rarely features glitter of any kind, but I do enjoy fun earrings (and shoes, love me some shoes).

The reason I like these earrings, and don’t feel like they’re over the top, is because I’ve used a natural wood as the base. You can go as big and as bold as you want, or as casual as you want when you’re designing your pieces.

This project is perfect for beginning jewelry makers, and beginning painters. You only need a few supplies, and you can find them all at your local craft store or online.

How to Make Dangle Earrings with Galaxy Glitter Video Tutorial

I found my natural wood earring bases from RocknWood Supply on Etsy, the ear wires at Joanns, and the paint from DecoArt.

Here’s what you’ll need and what you can find on Amazon, but you’ll have to find the paint on the DecoArt website or locally for now –

DecoArt Galaxy Glitter and a coordinating base coat
Ear wires
Liner brush

The Galaxy Glitter works best and will have a more intense color when you use a coordinating base coat first.

The glitter paint itself is crystal clear, the color comes from the various sizes of glitter in the paint. It actually reminds me a lot of a clear top coat of nail polish that has beautiful little specks of glitter in it.

Milky Way Blue glitter with Calypso Blue paint
Champagne Stardust with Oyster Beige
Ultraviolet with Purple Pizzaz
Gold Shooting Star with Sunny Day
Silver Moon with Gray Sky

For this tutorial, I’m using Milky Way Blue Galaxy Glitter with Calypso Blue acrylic paint.

First, decide what design you’d like on your earrings. For me, I like simple, so I wanted a lot of the natural wood to show with just that touch of color and sparkle. For these, I chose a half circle shape on the bottom of the earring.

Use a liner brush to paint your designs on the earrings.

Once that dries, add your glitter top coat.

You can do several layers of the glitter for more boldness and vibrance, just make sure you let each layer dry well between coats.

Materials

Galaxy Glitter from DecoArt
Craft paint in a base color to coordinate with the Galaxy Glitter
Natural wood teardrop earring pennants
Kidney ear wires

Tools

Liner paint brush

Instructions

Choose a design you want on your earrings. Using your base color, paint it on with your liner brush.
When your base color is dry, use your liner brush to add a coat of the Galaxy Glitter paint. You can add several coats of the glitter paint for more vibrancy, but make sure your paint is dry between coats.
When the paint is completely dry, add the ear wires to the earrings. Most ear wires are flexible and able to be trimmed to the exact dangle length you want. They can also be purchased in several different lengths.

Notes

Using a natural wood base is good for beginners, because you can usually wipe off any paint mistakes, or let them dry completely and sand them off with fine sandpaper.
