How to Turn Thrifted Easter Items into Pretty Easter Wall Art {Video Tutorial}

If you’re a thrifter, you know that Easter items such as baskets and plastic eggs are easy to find. When you see how easy it is to turn these items into pretty home decor that’s 100% unique to your space, you won’t want to pass them up next time! 

This was originally posted in 2017, when I participated in a Thrift Store Swap with some fun creative ladies. To this day, it’s still one of my favorite thrift store makeovers, and one of the most popular on my blog.

You can find all the details on how this swap works in THIS post. But briefly, we each purchase 2 items for under $10 from our local thrift store, yard sale, consignment store, mom’s basement, etc. Then we send those two items to the next gal in the line-up and the gal before you sends two items too you! We have a month to repurpose the items and then we all share the reveal.

I received two fun items from Maria at My Sweet Things from all the way across the ocean in Spain!  I sent my two secret items my swap partner Betsy from Happily Ever After Etc. 

Maria made sure to package them well, and even took the time to gift wrap them.

It felt like being a little kid at Christmas again, waiting on presents to arrive from my Grandparents.

So when I opened the box, my surprise items were wooden napkin holder and four small baskets.

I’ll admit that I had to think for a bit before I had that “Ah ha!” moment where everything snapped together in my mind.

Today, I’m sharing how I used the baskets, but stay tuned because I’ll show you what I did with that napkin holder in another post.

To create my beautiful Easter home decor, I used a few product from one of my favorite art supply companies, DecoArt. I love this decoupage paper because it’s lightweight and thinner than most papers currently available, making it very easy to use on rounded surfaces. I had very minimal bubbles or bulges on the plastic eggs, which tends to happen with thicker paper. They’re bright and vibrant after the decoupage dries. I especially like the Gold Trends prints for this project, because every kid wants to find the golden egg at an egg hunt! I also used the Paisley Punch and Arrows patterns, both of which are colorful & perfect for Easter eggs.

Supplies:

• Small baskets
• Plastic eggs
• Shallow wooden box
• DecoArt Decoupage paper
• Chalk paint (I used DecoArt American chalk paint left over from this game table project)
• Matte Decoupage

Tools:

• Paintbrushes 
• Hot glue gun

You’ll have to look at a thrift store or craft store for a shallow box and the correct size baskets.

The results are adorable, and are sure to be a conversation piece in your home!
