Have you ever considered how gift tags are the icing on the cake, the cherry on top, of your Christmas wrapping? Oh yes they are! We put so much time into choosing the right gift, and making sure it’s wrapped just right, the gift tag is not the place to skimp out.

My kids and I have made several fun gift tags over the years, like these paint chip trees, but this is the first year we’re going to DIY some Christmas gift tag snow globe ornaments.

These gift tags are great to let the kids color and personalize.

After the present is opened, they become fun ornaments for the tree. They become like a little snow globe time capsule of their artistic skills and handwriting.

If you decide to make them an annual tradition, can you imagine how special a collection of ornaments over the years would be?

So let’s begin!

HOW TO MAKE GIFT TAG SNOW GLOBE ORNAMENTS

The gift tag printable is free to download and use for your own snow globes.

As every good crafter knows, the results of your project depend a lot on the quality of the product you use when creating.

For these gift tags, there were a lot of tiny lines and details to fill in.

For this project, I chose to use the FriXion® & G2 Pens by Pilot Pen, because I knew the colors would be vibrant, and they’re easy to use.

If you’re an online shopper you can hover over the Pilot Pen packages in the picture below and it’ll take to you straight to the website so you can grab a package for yourself.

Or, even a few for Christmas gifts. They’d make great stocking stuffers!

Build Your Ornaments

Supplies:

  • Printable Gift Tags
  • Clear glass or plastic ornaments
  • Your choice of Pilot Pen
  • Scissors
  • Hole punch
  • Twine
  • Faux snow or white glitter
  • Hot Glue

The first thing you need to do is print your free gift tags. I recommend printing on white card stock.

Depending on the ornament you use, you may need to resize the tags when you print them.

I found my clear ornaments at Walmart, but they’re available at most places during the holidays.

Choose from the rainbow variety of pens to color in the gift tags.

The FriXion® pens use smooth writing gel ink & they erase cleanly, which is a huge deal if you’re crafting these with your kiddos.

Fun Fact – the G2 is the #1 Selling pen brand in America!

The G2 actually has a lot of options – they come in four-point sizes, multiple barrel styles, a comfortable grip, and 27 total colors.

The package I bought included 20 different colors, every color I could need for this project.

Cut out your tags.

It’s a good idea to leave a little room at the top to punch a hole for hanging. Then, you can trim as needed to fit inside your ornament.

Thread twine through the hole in the tag.

Make sure it’s pretty long, because you’ll use it to hold your tag steady when you’re filling your ornament, and later for wrapping around the top for decoration.

You can use a funnel to add faux snow, or white glitter to the inside of the ornament.

This is what gives it the snow globe effect.

Curl your gift tag, and poke it into the top of the ornament (this is where that twine comes in handy, so you don’t your lose hold on it).

Use can use one of your pens to push and shape the gift tag in place.

Put your cap back on the ornament, and wrap your twine around it.

Hot glue the twine in place.

You can make your own bow, or add a premade one to the top by hot gluing.

Use twine, ribbon, or a hook to hang the gift tag snow globe ornament from your packages and on your Christmas tree.

I know it always helps me, when someone recommends a product, to know where they got it and what the packaging looks like.

I got mine in the office department at Walmart.

My Walmart had a Pilot Pen end cap display (admittedly, it was pretty empty and needed a restock). But, both types of pens I was looking for were down that aisle in their own boxes.
