Patriotic Mason Jar Craft- DIY Rustic Americana Candle Holder

Need a last minute 4th of July project, or simply just love the patriotic look of Rustic Americana?

Yes?
Then you’ll love these candle holders that are so unbelievably easy and inexpensive to create with mason jars or even empty jars you’ve saved from your pantry.

You also know I love to get the kiddos involved in as many projects and crafts I can.
Well, here’s another one that covers both!

Anyway, I’m going to jump right in here, because you’re going to want to make these when I’m finished telling you how.

Supplies:
After you’ve made your dough from the recipe, you’ll use the star cookie cutter to create your stars, and then add a little hole in the top with a pencil for hanging. The kids can definitely help with this part. Lay them on a baking sheet and bake in 30 minute increments at 300 degrees. Check every half hour till they’re not soft. Mine baked for about an hour total. The thicker they are, the longer they’ll take to harden.

Next, let them cool completely, overnight if you can. If not, at least wait a few hours then paint the stars with regular craft paint. This is the part the kids love. I like the imperfection when they do it, it looks even more rustic that way.

When painting the dough, it may turn a little soft, but no worries. Let it dry completely and it will be fine. You can even add a coat of clear spray sealer once it’s dry for extra protection.

4th of July stars kids can make

Once the stars have been painted and are dry, grab your mason jars and twine. Wrap the twine (or ribbon if you’d prefer) around the top and thread it through the hole in the star. Tie a knot and it’s complete.

Now, add your candles, and they’re ready!

If you wanted, instead of candles, you could add a bouquet of wildflowers, candy or even use them as utensil holders like these.
