DIY Ash Ketchum Costume Pokemon

Last minute, easy costumes have always kind of been our thing. For two reasons really- 1. I procrastinate and 2. I simply like creating our own costumes.

A year ago, my boys were all into Pokemon GO!

When costume time rolled around my youngest wanted to be Charizard (which I actually planned ahead and ordered online) but my 5th grader wanted to be Ash Ketchum.

But by the time I got around to it, the costumes for Ash were either sold out or not in stock in his size, so we made our own.

Even better, because I sew very little, it’s a no-sew costume. The only piece I ordered online was similar to this Ash Ketchum hat, but you could easily make that as well with a marker and the correct color hat.

How to Make an Ash Ketchum Costume

Things you’ll need:

Blue jersey
White polo shirt
Black jersey
Yellow bias tape
Heat-N-Bond
Yellow button
Green half finger gloves
Scissors
An iron

First, cut your white polo and blue jersey down the middle, and cut the arms off the blue jersey. This piece becomes his vest.

You may have to cut off the part of the white polo that has the buttons around the collar.

Next, cut the yellow bias tape to fit the bottom of the blue jersey, and attach it with an iron and the Heat-N-Bond.

Attach the diagonal pieces the same way (using the Heat-N-Bond) to make faux pockets.

Hot glue the yellow button to the vest.

If you want a more finished edge on the jersey and polo where you cut them up the middle, you can fold down those edges as well and use the bonding to make neater edge.

If you can find green gloves that don’t have fingers, then great! If not, cut the fingers off the gloves.

Wear the vest over the black jersey with a pair of jeans, and that’s it!

Bonus points if you have a cute plush Picchu for your shoulder.

How to make a Pokeball Candy Bucket

Things You’ll Need:

A jack-o-lantern candy bucket
White spray primer
Red paint (spray or acrylic)
White paint (spray or acrylic)
Black acrylic paint
Black and white craft foam
Scissors
Hot glue gun and sticks

First, prime the candy bucket

Next, paint the top half red and the bottom half white

Paint a black stripe around the middle

From the craft foam- cut one large black circle, a medium white one, and a small black one.

Layer them and hot glue them in that order, and glue them to the front of the bucket to cover the pumpkin face.
