Imagine that it’s the middle of winter, during flu season, and you’re feeling crummy with a cold.
And then, a dear friend brings over a thoughtful gift of a mason jar full of homemade, vibrant smelling, and good for you essential oils body scrub cubes. A warm soak in a tub, or a nice hot shower with these is sure to leave you uplifted and feeling refreshed. They’re not quite sunshine in a scrub, but pretty close to it!

Need Essential Oils Basics? Let’s Chat for a Minute…
There’s a lot of buzz these days about essential oils, it’s overwhelming.
In (very) short, essential oils are most commonly used in the practice of aromatherapy. They are either inhaled, or diluted then rubbed on the skin.
You can research all the big players in the game – Young Living, dōTERRA, Plant Therapy, Edens Garden, and so many more, and you’ll find a lot of information. One thing that’s undeniable about them all is that essential oils are great to use.
Not all essential oils are created equally. The way the oils are made is very, very important. The cheaper essential are often obtained through chemical processes, and are not considered true essential oils. They do not have the same effect as pure oils, and can sometimes have negative results.
You’ve also probably heard about “carrier oils” being used with essential oils. These are really important, and are included in this body scrub recipe.
A carrier oil is your choice of fatty oil: olive, coconut, grape seed, etc. that you use with your oil for dilution. That doesn’t actually weaken the essential oil at all. It’s actually very beneficial because It helps you absorb the essential oils more slowly. And that prolongs the effects of the oil. When in doubt, dilute, it will never be the wrong thing to do.
Your coconut and almond oils can be ordered online, but are also found in the baking section of your local grocery store. Look for words like organic, unrefined, or cold pressed for the most pure carrier oils for your recipes. You may be able to find shea butter in an organic store, but I’ve always ordered mine online.
